Step 1: Define Your Product
Before contacting a manufacturer, clarify what you want: garment type, fabric, fit, colors, sizes and any branding such as labels or prints. The more detail you provide, the more accurate your quote will be.
A simple tech pack or reference sample helps enormously. Even photos of a shirt you like, with notes on what to change, give the factory a clear starting point.
Step 2: Request a Quote and Samples
Send your specifications and ask for pricing at a few quantity levels, since unit costs typically fall as volume rises. Confirm the minimum order quantity and lead time at this stage.
Always request a sample before committing to bulk. A pre-production sample lets you verify fabric, fit and construction, and becomes the approved standard your order is measured against.
Step 3: Confirm the Order
Once the sample is approved, you confirm quantities, sizes and delivery terms. Reputable manufacturers will document everything, including measurements and decoration placement, to avoid misunderstandings.
Payment terms are usually agreed here. A deposit before production with the balance before shipment is a common, fair structure for both sides.
Step 4: Production, Inspection and Delivery
During production, a good manufacturer keeps you updated on progress. Before shipping, the order should pass a quality inspection covering measurements, workmanship and packaging.
Finally, you choose a shipping method. With DDP the factory handles freight and customs to your door, while FOB lets you manage your own forwarder. Either way, export documents are prepared and your goods are on the way.
